Recently The Air Force Association awarded its coveted Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Silver Cadet Medal to C/2nd Lt Brandon W. Calhoun of the Wicomico Composite Squadron, Group II, Maryland Wing.  This medal is annually presented to the most outstanding CAP Cadet in a squadron.  The Air Force Association is an independent, nonprofit, civilian education organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation.

Cadet Calhoun, a senior at Delmar High School, had previously received the CAP Billy Mitchell award and has frequently participated in the squadron’s emergency services missions, most recently providing last minute overnight site surveillance of a Maryland State Police helicopter crash near Andrews Air Force Base.  He is in the early enlistment program of the United States Marine Corps and will report for basic training after graduation.

Also C/Capt Jacob Terlizzi, CAP and C/MSgt Zachary Jones, CAP were promoted to their present ranks.  C/Capt Terlizzi also received the Earhart Award signifying his outstanding achievements in the CAP Cadet Program.

Making the presentation on behalf of The Air Force Association was Maj William Parris, CAP, Group II Commander.  Maj Kenneth Thom, Squadron Commander, presided during the ceremony.
