On 14 July 2008 Maj Kenneth S. Thom, CAP, assumed command of the Wicomico Composite Squadron, Group II of the Maryland Wing.  Lt Col Christian Ready, CAP, Group II Commander, accompanied by his deputy Maj Christopher Howell, CAP, officiated at a formal change of command ceremony held at the squadron headquarters.

Appreciation was expressed to the outgoing commander, 1st Lt Ted Antal, a former cadet of the squadron.  The squadron's Senior and Cadet members were in formation for the event including the squadron's Color Guard.  Community members also attended.

Maj Thom, a former CAP cadet in New Jersey, is a CAP Mission and Cadet Orientation pilot and has served over two years as the Standards and Evaluation Officer for the Maryland Wing.  Additionally he is the Wing's Air Search and Rescue Officer.

Thom retired as a contract team leader for the National Air and Space Agency's Global Geospace Science Mission.  Subsequently he earned a commercial pilot certificate and an instrument rating, and became a certified flight/instrument flight instructor.

Following the ceremony, which was a new experience for several cadet recruits, everyone was treated to light refreshments provided by Mrs. Argentieri, Murray and Thom.
